Venice

Venice! Is there a city that is more admired, more celebrated, more sung by poets, more wanted by lovers, more visited, and more popular? Venice! Is there in the human languages a name which let you dream more?

Venice is a city which reflects in the water. The traveler is, even if the traveler just passes by, fascinated by the beauty and by the number of monuments and works of art. The Piazza San Marco, the heart of the city, an important urban and architectural complex, has its name from the popular St. Mark's Basilica which was built in the oriental style, and which is overtopped by five Byzantine domes. On the one side, the large room opens to the lagoon, and on the other side to the bell tower and the prestigious historical buildings of the Procuratie Vecchie e Nuove and of the Palazzo Ducale.

Not far away is the elegant Bridge of Sighs, a must for the romantic gondola trip which traditionally leads up the Canal Grande. In the tangled streets, in the up and down of bridges, Venice becomes alive.

By foot you can discover the treasures of the baroque Santa Maria della Salute or of the Gallerie dell'Accademia, which houses the master pieces of Venetian painters between the 14th and the 18th century.
Also the Scuola di San Rocco with the extraordinary cycle of paintings from Tintoretto.

But Venice also offers modern and contemporary art as it can be found in the renovated and restored Punta della Dogana, in the Palazzo Grassi, or in the Avantgarde of the Biennale.

Venice must be tasted on the plate! Maritime traditions and influences of the spicy oriental cuisine flow into the Venetian gastronomy.
Under the productions which are protected on European level is for example the red Radicchio di Chioggia ggA. In the great choice of desserts the popular "Baicoli", dry cookies, "Zaleti", sweets made of raisins and corn, and the "Pan dei Dogi" with pine nuts, raisins, cocoa, walnuts, and almonds have to be named.
